Making Houston Greener
As the world has grown increasingly dependent on computers and other electronic devices, the sheer volume of e-waste has expanded to mammoth proportions. With Americans generating over three million tons of e-waste yearly, we are flooding our landfills with discarded electronic hardware containing elements that are toxic to humans and the ecosystem.
There has been a huge growth in ‘green’ efforts in Houston and surrounding areas. Many more items can now be recycled curbside; financial incentives are out there for office buildings to invest in more efficient energy products; challenges have been devised to encourage building managers to reduce consumption of resources and to recycle waste; and well organized ‘Green’ groups have emerged to encourage everyone to make recycling and environmental conservation a daily practice thereby saving landfill space, tax dollars and valuable natural resources. Our focus at TechnoCycle is e-waste which is so harmful to the environment.
About TechnoCycle:
Today’s Response to Yesterday’s Technology
TechnoCycle is a Houston-based e-Stewards electronic recycler whose mission is to ensure that all electronic waste is responsibly recycled and kept out of our landfills. We can achieve this mission by partnering with individuals, businesses, and local government to responsibly recycle their end-of-life electronics. Our process mitigates the data and environmental risks of recycling electronics by following a “reuse and recycle” policy that is guided by the stringent e-Stewards electronic recycling guidelines set forth by the Basel Action Network (www.ban.org). These guidelines ensure that data is properly erased and that all electronic materials we handle stay out of domestic and international landfills.
In support of the Green 6.2 our goal is to collect 2000 lbs of electronic waste. You can
- bring your e-waste to our facility weekdays from March 21st through April 22nd 9-5
- bring e-waste items to the “‘Recycling Event’ at the Pre-Race party on April 21st
Tell your friends and co-workers about this challenge – 2000lbs of electronic waste that will be re-used or, if that is not possible, responsibly recycled. Watch the site as we work towards our goal.
